Build your MOTD

Describe the server with structured details. You can edit the generated text freely.

Write for players, not for the editor

A useful MOTD quickly answers three questions: what kind of server this is, what makes it different, and whether there is something players need to know now. Lead with the strongest detail and remove filler that does not help someone decide whether to join.

HyTools keeps the native MOTD as plain text because unsupported color codes can become visible noise. The preview is for readability only; the final rendering must be checked in the current Hytale client.

Before updating config.json

Keep a copy of the original file and validate the JSON after any manual edit. Quotes, line breaks, and backslashes need correct escaping, especially when text is pasted from chat applications.

After applying the value, restart or reload the server using the method supported by your host, then verify the result from a normal player account instead of relying only on an administrator view.

How to use it

  • Choose the server type, current status, tone and the details that make the community different.
  • Generate a native plain-text MOTD, review the readability checks and edit the result whenever needed.
  • Copy the MOTD, copy the JSON property, download an updated config.json or send it to the server configuration assistant.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Hytale server MOTD?

It is the short Message of the Day stored in the server config.json. It should quickly explain the server theme, main difference or current status.

Where is the MOTD stored?

The native server configuration stores it as the MOTD text property in config.json. This tool can import that file, preserve the other properties and download an updated copy.

Can I format the MOTD?

HyTools treats the MOTD as plain text so the value remains easy to edit and use in config.json. Use the preview to review readability and confirm the final appearance on your server.

Is there an official character limit?

No public official limit is stated in the current server documentation. HyTools uses editorial readability ranges instead of blocking the text at an invented technical limit.

Is the preview identical to the game?

No. It is an approximate readability preview. The final appearance depends on the Hytale client and the server discovery interface available in the current game version.

Are my config.json and MOTD uploaded?

No. Importing, editing, analysis and file generation happen locally in the browser.
